I feel like this book is unlike anything I have ever read before. The premise of the book was already so unique and intriguing. Two time-traveling agents from warring factions fight to shape the past into a future where their side is triumphant. Both are the best agents of their respective sides but they begin to communicate in forbidden letters and jeopardize their own futures. Time travel books can be tricky to navigate, to begin with, but this was like time traveling on acid. There are so many different futures and pasts it's like weaving through multiverses. There's a particular scene I love where Red discusses the many Atlantis's that pop-up across the strands of the past. Unfortunately, the time traveling can get very confusing, it's best to just not think too much about it and instead focus on Red and Blue. This is very much a character-driven novella with some fun ever-changing backdrops. I didn't like this book much in the beginning but once the letters between Red and Blue became more intimate I found myself utterly captivated by their story. The sci-fi elements in this book were incredible. The ways in which Red and Blue communicate was just so unbelievably creative I have no idea how the writers came up with some of it. (The seal will always be my favorite though, she "sealed" the letter!) If you're looking to complete a lofty reading goal this year and are feeling open-minded one afternoon I would definitely recommend picking up this novella.
