The reader is introduced to the perspective of Red from an external point of view, who isn't afraid to have blood on her hands while contemplating the harsh impacts that have been done onto society and the already deteriorated planet. Suppression of conflicting emotions only deepens the paranoia within Red's occupation as an agent in times of turbulence and high-tensions. From the excerpt alone, I really appreciate the subtleties approached in the illicit exchange of letters as communication in the world seems prohibited in fear and judgment; overall, I have high hopes for the remainder of this novel as it continues to strengthen the relationship between Red and Blue despite the unfavorable consequences their bond may ignite.
