Time travel, morally complex characters, queer romance, and absolutely stunning writing? I literally couldn't ask for more!!
This novella is structured with alternating chapters of the two protagonists' perspectives and the letters they receive from each other. The time travel/war plot, though compelling, is hardly the highlight. The true joy of reading THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR is the letters from one woman to another, the slow lowering of their walls, the gradual unfolding of their regard for one another. Everything is this book is stunningly written, but nothing more so than the letters, which start with banter and, throughout the course of the book, end up being some of the most romantic correspondence you've ever read.
The writing is seriously next level--I already find myself excited to re-read and drink in the gorgeous words once more. And Red and Blue are each complex, funny, clever characters who it's very easy to root for. I love this book!
