Loved the premise but the wiring isn’t for me

The premise immediately sucked me in because I love sci-fi. However, after reading the first few pages, I’m torn. The book sounds incredibly poetic, and poetry is not my strong suit. I’m just too literal, so the beauty of the language is lost on me.
