I truly felt that I returned to high school when I was reading They Wish They Were Us. Cliques, gossip, Frenimies, secrets, all seem to take precedence over actual school work.

It seemed wild to me that the Players were more than just a clique, they were organized and visible. Everyone knew about them but not what all membership as one of the Players entitled you to. I am not sure being so popular is worth the price these kids had to pay, especially if it involves the murder of one of their own.

It almost takes on a gang like feel when the siblings get invited because they are legacies and when our protagonist wants out, she really has a tough time.

The romance confused me a bit, who was with whom and why, just convenience? And can you date an “outsider”?

I really felt for these characters and wish they had some of the wisdom of age, it would have served them well.
