This young adult thriller was everything I could ask for. I love high school dramas, and then when they can include an exclusive prep school and a murder, I’m all about it. There were some difficult, yet very real, topics to get through, such as hazing and sexual assault. I like when things like this are included in a book because it helps to show just how hard being a teenager is these days and gives us an idea of some of the things teenagers are forced to experience.

This story was a bit of a slow burn and, at least for me, didn’t really pick up until near the end of the novel. However, I enjoyed this slow burn as it helped to provide a lot of insight into the workings of the school and explained what, exactly, the Players are. Most of the discoveries and investigating happened in the last bit of the novel, but I had easily figured out who killed Shaila shortly after starting this one. Usually, I don’t like when I can guess the “whodunit” so quickly in a book, but something about this one captured my interest and kept me reading.

The characters were all so shallow for me throughout most of the novel, but we really got to see them grow and become characters with more depth and feeling at the end of the novel. It was nice to see them mature and grow out of their selfish desires to start thinking about others and how their actions might affect people other than themselves.

In all, I enjoyed this story and found it to be a quick read! If you like young adult and like thrillers, check this one out!
