I enjoyed it
This was one of the only young adult mystery books that I was intriged by. The concept was very interesting to me, especially the plot of finding out the mystery as well as continuing on in life without her best friend, who died. Jessica Goodman's writing style is similar to Karen M. Mcmanus's: full of plot twists and plot turns that you will never expect.
Our main character, Jill, is starting her senior year at her prep school. As a scholorship student, she is different from the other rich snobby students who attend the same prep school, but she fits in with apprences.
Freshman year of high school, Jill's best friend, Shaila was murdered on the beach. Shaila's boyfriend at the time confessed to killing her, and Jill has tried to move on with her life; concentrating on different realtionships and building a steady and dependable future. Jill is currently a senior and part of her school's secret society, called the Players. Being a player is like getting friends for life- you host all the good parties, get answers to every single class, securing the grades you need to get into great colleges, and the entire school wants to be one of them.
Jill has worked her way from the bottom up, so she's happy to finally be at the top rung. Over the school year, Jill begins to get texts from an unknown number, claiming that Shaila's boyfriend didn't kill Shaila, and that he was set up by someone. Jill wants to find out who truly killed her dead best friend, but she faces troubles with staying in with the Players, keeping her friends, and determining her future, all on a mystery that was closed three years ago. Is it truly worth it?
