I began this book with high expectations. I loved One of Us is Lying, so was expecting something a lot more similar.

I had a hard time relating to these characters. Jill, the main protagonist, spent most of the book concerned with what everyone thought of her, at the expense of everyone else. It’s a thrown together group of “best” friends that spends most of the book keeping secrets from one another. Makes for great drama, but it isn’t the most realistic.

I was also a little concerned with the YA label on this book, but the amount of language, sex and near scenes were scattered throughout the book. Being and adult, I don’t mind some of these things, but I definitely wouldn’t want a middle school aged child reading this content.

Generally, this was entertaining. I liked the pace of the book, for the most part. It moved fast enough but not too fast. It kept my interest, but also didn’t seem like a realistic story line. A lot of focus was put on the Players, and what was going on in the ultra exclusive group instead of always keeping the story moving. Generally I didn’t mind that, though.

I felt like this was a solid debut for this author, but there was definitely areas to improve on in any books going forward.

As a side note, I did love the cover and that’s what drew me to the book. I thought it was creative and interesting.
