Unique characters and intriguing story
The Steckler Sisters are high school track stars. They are used to competing with each other but when a new track runner comes to town, they’ll have new competition. Until she goes missing.
I love stories about sisters and I love stories about young adults dedicated to a certain hobby.. in this case cross country track. Stella’s character was certainly
unique. While it didn’t mention it specifically, she seemed neuroatypical, which I always like to see represented in stories. I liked the two sister’s relationship; it felt very real. While they had their issues and differences, they were still loyal to each other. The whodunnit kept me wondering. While the conclusion wasn’t really unexpected, I had an entertaining time reading throughout.
“Every single coach always told us that high school was our only shot. It was the tiny sliver of our life that could determine every single thing about our futures. But they never told us how to deal with the pressure of trying to set up our entire lives in just a few years. High school should come with a warning, told in hushed whispers to those who deserve to know. This is the best you’ll ever be.”
