The Wrong Kind of Weird is a YA contemporary that follows high school senior Cameron as he navigates senior year, relationships with his friends, and falling in love. He goes on a journey of self discovery as he learns what it means to be embraced for who he is and to accept others for who they are, all while getting into trouble and figuring out which girl he really likes along the way.

The writing is excellent, and it was definitely compelling for an older YA audience. There was plenty of cursing and steam, which I can always get behind. The premise of the book is sweet and the pop culture references are so fun. The novel is largely rooted in the anime/manga culture, and it did a really good job of explaining that space and inviting the reader to join.

The book is short, coming in at just over 300 pages. It was a SUPER quick read, with wonderful friendships, 2 enemies to lovers romances, and learning how to be comfortable in your own skin at its heart. It takes a page out of Pride and Prejudice (which is featured as a play performance in the novel).

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I would absolutely recommend it to fans of contemporary YA, regardless of age. It packed a powerful punch in those 315 pages. I'm really glad I had the opportunity to read it.
