Oh my goodness! What did I just read! I thought this was going to be a scary book but it leaned more towards the gruesome side! It’s definitely an evil YA novel that left me gasping for air. Neena and Josie are best friends and will go their separate ways after graduation. So they decide to have one last fling—a 3 day hike in the woods of Pisgah National Forest. Despite warnings of bears these two novice backpackers think of this trip as an adventure. These silly girls can barely carry a huge backpack, haven’t broken in their hiking shoes, know nothing about the outdoors and survival and to top it off they begin to bicker. So of course they then veer off the preferred path which, you guessed it, leads to danger. As their adventure turns into a nightmare the story turns ugly and gruesome. I didn’t expect that and was shocked. If you are a lover of YA this book might be for you. Well written and very descriptive.
