Neena and Josie are best friends who decide to take a hiking/camping trip the week before Neena leaves for college in California, while Josie stays in North Carolina. Inexperienced, they feel this is a "must do" bucket list thing they have to experience. The woods are creepy enough on their own, but these woods are known to have bears, and they soon discover there's a lot more danger out there. Ironically they do reference the movie The Revenant but my mind kept thinking of Deliverance as well!
This book caught my attention from the first page and didn't let go. Not only are there numerous challenges and dangers, but also strife that threatens their friendship to its core. Throughout the book you're tense, wondering if they can physically make it out alive and if they do, will their friendship continue, or will they grow apart when Neena leaves? What a roller coaster read! I really enjoyed this page turner!
