A solid 3.5, but rounding up because I think this novel deserves that generosity. This book's summary is exactly right: assume nothing. I can't say too much without giving it away, but this tag-team duo of authors created a smartly-written, up-and-down ride that is dark, intriguing and chock full of secrets. The story was fast-paced (if not a little long at times), and I read this book cover-to-cover in less than a week.

The twist around the middle of this book threw me for a LOOP, ya'll! It had that Gone Girl feel... just when I thought I just wasn't getting into the book, it knocked me back with a revelation and I just had to keep reading.

I dropped a star (maybe a star and a half) because I felt the story veered off towards the end in the name of a killer twist; the last "big shocker" seemed a bit far-fetched. Clues were dropped along the way and I picked up on exactly zero of them; a testament to the skill of the authors. That's not to say this book isn't worth a read; if twisty, dark thrillers are your thing, then you should absolutely get on this train!
