Low stakes for a thriller

This is the second book I've read by these authors, and I just don't think their writing is for me. In The Wife Between Us, there are some interesting twists for sure, but nothing mind blowing, and they don't make up for the boring story and (comparatively) low stakes for a thriller. And the first twist doesn't make a ton of sense, now that I think about how the main character was acting the whole time. That twist seemed a bit forced.
For people who are scared for their lives and think they are going to die, these characters never think of going to the police or telling anyone about what is going on.
It flashed back A LOT. It got repetitive after awhile. And while you felt for the main character, it was hard to understand her decisions a lot of the time, but as time went on and she started to pull her life back together it became easier to root for her.
