Good but not Great
Vanessa is a recently divorced woman spiraling out of control. She is obsessed with watching her ex-husband and his new lover. When she finds out they are getting married, she is determined to do whatever she can to stop the marriage from proceeding. Nellie is just a girl hopelessly in love with her fiancé, even though she does not seem to fit in with his world. But, not everything is what it seems in this book.
So, I will try very hard to avoid spoilers with this. I was totally thrown for a loop by the first twist. I had to read and re-read the pages to really figure out what was happening and make the connection. Once I did I was totally HOOKED. The characters are likable and relatable because they have pasts and they are all deeply flawed and imperfect people. The writing is well done so that it is so hard to see anything coming until it hits you full in the face. Why the 3 stars then? This is my 3rd book by this pair this year and perhaps it isn't fair to compare this one to the other two, but I can't help myself. This one just wasn't as good. It took SO long for everything between Vanessa and Richard to come out and to be exposed that it felt almost like an after thought. There were just so many loosely made connections (I can list a ton of them) that seemed like they were thrown in at the end just to make the book more sensational. And they didn't make any sense to me. They were unnecessary. Not a bad book and it definitely had me hooked, but I was just disappointed with the ending.
