The book blurb says you WILL assume certain things. Within the first four chapters you do begin to assume things, about the new wife to be, the displaced wife, and the husband. But we are also told NOT to assume anything. When the ex-wife says that she was not a good wife shouldn't I assume this to be true.
The first four chapters alternate between Vanessa, the ex, and Nellie, the replacement. First person for Vanessa and Third person for Nellie. An unreliable narrator in both cases, which I find interesting.
