I am sitting here wondering why I never thought to look at "The Silent Corner". Its sequel is so well-paced and original that I feel the need to pick it up as soon as possible. I usually am not a huge fan of FBI type thrillers because I find them to be so similar to each other, but I feel this could be my gateway. The story is already very original, venturing into territory that may have been explored by others, but not this skillfully. Koontz writes with a master's touch, confident in every jot and tittle, making you wonder what kind of espionage experience he may have had...
I love his use of language, it's very fluid and poetic in the best way, painting a vivid picture without spoon-feeding you too much. But his language is still on that side of simple that makes it accessible to a wider audience without being pandering. It has that unique quality of making you feel that you are watching a real-life scenario, rather than reading something from the author's mind. His ability to choose words you wouldn't normally think of to describe something adds to the effect, making for an entrancing reading experience. Between that and the totally unpredictable storyline, I am dying to read more.
