Thank you Bookish First and Celadon Books for the ARC!

It's not often that a book actually scares me to the point that I can't sleep. Movies - yes - books, meh. Well, let me just say that this book creeped me out to no end and I loved that!

The serial killer story line was well done, mostly because the original killer is in jail, but now 20 years later a little boy goes missing from the same area, with basically the same MO. Is there a copycat? Was there an accomplice? Time is running out to save him, and the only one that might be able to help is the original killer behind bars.

I also really liked the dynamics of Tom and his son Jake. Dealing with the death of his mom, Jake starts exhibiting some strange symptoms - Imaginary friends, drawing pictures that are concerning, saying weird things. It was scary to wonder if there were ghosts or another way he could have gotten the information to know the things he was drawing and saying.

I enjoyed the alternating POV, and the way the story was told. I liked switching between Tom and Jake's story to Pete and the cops. I think it added a needed perspective to the book. Everything fell neatly into place by the end, and all of my questions were answered.

The only thing keeping this from being 5 stars was that I figured it out early on. Once I figured it out, it stopped being so scary because it all made sense. I wouldn't say it got predictable, but it just wasn't as terrifying because it didn't have that element of shock when you found out "whodunnit" at the end.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone that enjoys reading psychological thrillers!
