The story is about a father and son who move to a new house after the death of their beloved wife/mother. The father, whose name is Tom, loves his son, but always feels he is never doing things right raising him. His son, whose name is Jake, Loves his dad, but feels like his dad does not understand him. One of the main things he feels his dad does not understand are the children he talks to, especially the girl in the blue and white checked dress. The little girl teaches Jake a rhyme that she tells him is important to remember when they move to this new house. The Rhyme is about the Whisper Man. The Whisper Man comes for children if they are Lonely, Sad and Blue. Shortly after moving to their new home, Jake begins to hear whispering outside his window.
