Wow. Till what I read of this book in the first look, this book completely blew me off. The writing is top-notch and lucid, carrying around itself a mysterious yet intriguing vibe that makes readers remain glued to the story from the very first page itself. The story, picking up momentum for the first few lines itself, makes you hold on tight to your seat wondering what is going to come next and how the story is going to unfold further.

The excerpt that I read made me want to dig deeper into the lives of the father and son duo, Tom and Jake Kennedy, both of whom had lost the most important person in their lives ten months ago, the former, his wife, and the latter, his mother. Tom is depressed and disappointed with himself and his inability to take control of the things in his life, and more importantly, be a good father to his motherless son. Jake, on the other hand, is starkly unusual from the children of his age, spending his time drawing pictures that seem more like "living, breathing scenes from a movie" and talking to imaginary friends, one of who makes her appearance in the second chapter itself, apparently telling Jake about a "warning". The father and son duo are moving from the house they currently inhabit to start their lives anew in a city called Featherbank. The house they are going to move into has been chosen by Jake and while Tom initially has some reservations about it, he later describes the house to have "character". In the midst of this, a boy named Neil Spencer is reported missing in Featherbank, possibly been abducted by "The Whisper Man" whom we are yet to encounter in the novel. DI Amanda Beck and Pete Willis are in charge of the investigation.

To conclude, I loved the excerpt of this book to bits and I'm sure that this novel has a lot to offer. Whether I win or not, I'm surely gonna pick it up in the future. Thanks to the author for this experience!
