To date, I’ve read all of Jasmine Guillory’s novels and can’t wait for the next one to be released. I’ve always been a fan of female driven comedy/dramas with a happy ending. This one takes that genre and adds something we’ve rarely seen, an African American leading lady, whose successful in her career but struggles with many of the issues we face in our personal lives like dating and body image.
In this novel Alexa meets a man by chance while stuck in an elevator. There is an immediate connection and she agrees to be his plus one at a weeding. They hatch a plan to pretend to be real couple. Both believe after the weekend is a one and done and each will return to their real lives never to see each other again. What unfolds in a connection that they try to ignore but can’t and the updates and downs of what becomes a long distance romance.
I love that these characters are three dimensional. Easy to relate to regardless of the readers background. The ups and downs of a relationships are accurately depicted and the men of the story well developed. The characters in this book make an appearance in other books by the author which is great in providing more character development. It’s not necessary that you read these books in any specific order. These are a fast read and my favorites for easy escapism reading.
