I wanted to love Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date because the premise is fun and the author is unique in making it a multicultural romance. But...Drew can be an oblivious jerk and Alexa, despite being very successful and having supportive friends seems to have major insecurities about her appearance - which I feel like she could totally own. They meet in an elevator of a hotel when the power goes out, and Drew asks Alexa to be his date and fake "girlfriend" for a wedding he's in town to attend. Naturally, a romance ensues and the book proceeds through endless cycles of waxing poetic about food, having sex, and then questioning the status of their relationship. Since this is a romance book, you can guess that ultimately there's a happy ending, but it seems like there is little personal or relationship growth in the book to make the whole story truly fulfilling.
