This was the first book I read by Jasmine Guillory, it was not my favourite work of hers but it was what got me hooked on her as an author. She touches on race and interracial relationships in ways I have not seen very often in other novels and her writing style is easy to read. Her stories come from a real place and the emotions are genuine. Her characters feel real which is something you do not always get in contemporary romance novels. While the story had some plot points that felt a little unrealistic the majority of the plot was extremely believable. What I personally loved about the story was that both main characters had goal, careers and passions and it gave an insightful look into the career path of a black women in America. I also appreciated the ending, which I will leave out spoilers, but the other gave the book an ending I could happily support, this is why I keep reading her novels.
