As a person who grew up in a very religious family I was very interested in reading this book about a cult and the inner workings of growing up inside the cult/church. I didn't realize this was a Young Adult book because it was written so well. The characters are really developed well and the book is very easy read. You get a great picture of New Jeruselum and the members. I believe that people need to follow others like Daniel so they feel like they have a purpose in life and belong somewhere even if it's a false belief. Like any young person brought up a certain way the ideas and rituals of the cult are questioned by the main character. I really liked this book. It makes you think about how some religious founders came to be and why people follow them.
