At first this looked like a dystopia, but then it quickly turned out to be a small cult. The cool thing about this is that I know the area where this story takes place. That helped to add a bit of realism to the novel. I had just read the Handmaid's Tale for the first time and so I kept comparing the two books. They are both good, but The Virtue of Sin is on a smaller level of just one community, but it is more updated to the times. The points of view were from Miriam and Caleb. Miriam was an easy to like character and I liked Caleb until he was just so angry at everyone, all the time, that it got kind of irritating. I did like the twist and when I got to that point, everything went much faster. I enjoyed reading this book.
