I really enjoy stories of insular religious communities and cults and this book is scratching that itch for me. I am intrigued at the patriarchal structure of this group, as well as their traditions, which are clearly a spin-off of Christianity but not of a group that is familiar to me. The characters of Miriam and Caleb are very interesting to me - both seem to adhere to the structures of the community but also seem to question them at the same time. I'd love to continue reading and discovering more about this group. Do Caleb and Miriam find a way to be together? Do they stay? What part did Daniel play in this outcome? Why does it feel like Daniel has set something up to happen this way? So many questions...
