Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and BookishFirst for the gifted ARC for review, however all opinions are my own and honest! Ava Simon is an engineer at a trendy furniture company still reeling from the tragic death of her parents and fiancée years before. Enter her charismatic new boss, Mat Putnam, who brings Ava out of her shell, but may be more than what he appears at first glance (or less?)

As a character, Ava is equal parts eccentric and incredibly full of heart; you can’t help but to fall in love with her and her idiosyncrasies. The story itself is not my usual fare, but I’m so glad I had the opportunity to give this book a chance! Off the bat, I was drawn in by the unique and distinctive characters, and the quirky voice of the authors. But what really kept me engaged throughout the read was that I never could quite get a handle on what was going to happen next. What starts out as an almost-satirical workplace romance, begins to morph into something else entirely (no spoilers here!!). I also appreciated that this tackles lots of heavier topics- loss, sexual identity, toxic masculinity -with an incredibly human touch and respect. Overall, would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fresh, genre-bending read!
