Ava loves her life working as an engineer for STADA. Every day is beautifully organized, uniform and solitary. She and her team design boxes, build them, test them, rebuild them then explain how to assemble them. She is blindsided to learn that her boss is retiring and being replaced by a young and handsome new hire named Mathew. To Ava's horror, Mathew announces that there will be many soft and fuzzy changes to the work environment, such as "Positivity Mandates" and obligatory use of a therapy app. All she wants to do is calculate the optimal hinge width for the Very Nice Box she's designing and keep her safe and secure routine. The story is off to a good, if maybe a bit predictable, start. I enjoyed the writing style and I liked getting to know Ava's perspective a bit. I work with a lot of engineers and I think the authors nailed her logical mentality. The story so far felt a bit familiar to me, I'm wondering if it will go in the direction I expect or if there are surprising twists and turns.
