I was really excited for this book. I thought the cover was really cool and the plot seemed interesting and slightly creepy. Just my style! And I would say that I was invested.... until about 1/3 of the way through. After that, it got really boring and felt very superficial, particularly the characters (or should I say the lack there of). Tempest was just angry. That was it. I couldn't really say anything about her. Also, I didn't feel like there was any true connection from Tempe and her sister. A lot of times, it felt like Tempe hated her, so it was hard for me to see why she was going through all the trouble to help her escape. Also, I felt that Lor was just there cause they needed another person to chase them. He really had no character, yet they constantly switched to his bland perspective. For a book that was over 400 pages long, the characters should be distinctive and complex. Also, the plot and mystery just wasn't strong enough to last 400 pages especially with the flat characters. I will admit that the book picked up a bit at the end, but it felt very rushed. The science that they had spent the entire book explaining felt like it got tossed out the window, so it felt really ridiculous. Overall, I really wanted to like this book....but it ended up being a flop.
