Astrid Scholte has created a rich new underwater world. She has created a dystopian, yet in some ways idyllic, future world of hardships and advanced technology with an undercurrent of sinister secrets. With climate change and capitalism run amok, land is a precious commodity available only to the super wealthy. Our main character is a diver who is struggling to survive and unravel the mystery of her parents and sister's deaths by earning enough notes to pay the research center to revive her sister for the day. But while the world building was incredible and the characters likable, something fell flat for me. Maybe the characters were a bit cliche - teen savior with an angsty background who is perfectly heroic (heroine-ic?) , agent on her tail who, surprise surprise, isn't all that bad and is also the perfectly handsome love interest. So I guess it was a good book overall, but a bit predictable in parts.
