Most post-apocalyptic stories make everything grimy and terrible. And while it does seem like life is painfully difficult in Equinox, the world is so wonderfully beautiful: bioluminescent coral grows on sunken buildings, restaurants remain intact on the ocean floor, as if waiting for customers, and even the diseases like Crystal Lung sound tragically lovely.

Tempe was an excellent protagonist to follow down through the deep and up through to the air. I liked her anger and her daring. Lor was a bit of a surprise--I was not expecting a second POV character--but his melancholy shyness was a good contrast to Tempe's volatility. I wanted to sink into this world immediately, and the feeling only got stronger with successive chapters.
