I read Astrid Scholte's Four Dead Queens earlier this year out of curiosity and was surprised at how good Scholte's execution was. What surprised me with The Vanishing Deep, however, was how different it is compared to Four Dead Queens, and I'm all for it! The sinister undertones throughout the First Look made me feel both excitement for the truth about Tempe and Elysea's parents and anticipation for what the two sisters don't know yet. I think this truth and the secret (or secrets?) of Palindromena and its employees will be devastating. This is going to be one heck of a book!
