I absolutely loved Scholte's debut novel and was so excited when I saw that she'd written a new book. Knowing that sometimes the second novel isn't quite as good as the first, I kept my expectations low. But my First Impression is that this novel will be at least as good as Four Dead Queens if not better.

Scholte's world building skills are unparalleled, because she takes what is familiar and tweaks it to be slightly different but not unrecognizable. The book basically takes place on a waterlogged Earth, where people live on boats and harvest from the oceans which cover the lives we know today.

However, there is a fantastical element in that the dead can be revived for a 24 hour period. I can't wait to see what happens when our main character, Tempe, speaks to her sister!
