The Tubman Command is beautifully written. Rich language interspersed with colloquialisms and long-forgotten dialects brings the reader side-by-side with Harriet Tubman. The novel's plot is pin-point focused -- a reflection of Harriet's dedication to freeing souls from slavery. The story artfully undulates between Harriet's determined drive and her sense of burden and loss.

Harriet Tubman, or Moses as she's known, works with the Union's brass as a scout off of Hilton Head Island. In a time when the Union has suffered devastating defeats in the South, Harriet Tubman uses her connections and skill to turn the tide for the Union and for freeing her people. Harriet's determination, loss and struggle feed her to prove over and over again that a woman, a black woman, is the equal to any man, if not superior.
