I've been looking for a YA Ghost story I could get into since reading The Mediator series way back in the day. So I loved that Jake was a medium and even though I'm not a big ghost story person I loved how those elements were included. And when I first saw the trailer for this back when it was titled Jake in the Box I knew I had to read it. I'm sure this will do well with all the dark academia trend going on right now. I loved that this was short but very visual at the same time because brevity is important to me in books but details shouldn't be skimped on for sake of page count. As someone who attended all white private schools there were many instances where I could relate to Jake. There's so many micro and macro aggressions that you have to deal with on a daily basis. While there was a romance in this I appreciated that it did not detract from the action and instead was just something that naturally came about.
