This was not like any book that I typically read, and I don’t like to use the word enjoyed... but it was a very eye-opening book that I couldn’t put down. It was a very dark story line, which is why enjoy is not quite the proper word to describe my experience reading this novel. I really liked how the author weaved some major societal issues into Jake’s story. For someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience with feeling devalued in society, it opened my eyes to the struggles others may face on a daily basis. This story encouraged me to be even kinder to every person I meet, because you really never know what battles (or ghosts, ghouls, demons) someone may be facing every single day. I was very satisfied with how this story ended, even though I was not really sure what to expect as the story progressed. Recommend this read for anyone! Worth the scary parts!
