I am a Teen Librarian in a public library, and as such am always looking for great new books to add to my collection. After reading my ARC of this book, I immediately ordered multiple copies for both branches because I strongly feel this is a book that not only deserves recognition, but also really should find its way into as many teen (and adult!) hands as possible. Not only is it extremely well written, it also handles a lot of really deep themes such as familial strife, violence, substance abuse, racism, and homophobia. This may seem like a deep, dark book and at times, it certainly is. But it's also a book about survival and hope as well. Primarily though, this book is a thriller and in that respect it absolutely accomplishes what it sets out to do - I was scared out of my mind while reading this! Overall, I think this is an amazing book and I recommend it often!
