I was so excited to read this book. I started reading it the day I got it in the mail and finished it the next day. I was expecting this to be 4 or 5 stars but unfortunately, I was not a huge fan of this book.

To start off, I highly appreciate a book about being written about black, queer people. You don't see enough books about black, queer people so that aspect of the book was quite enjoyable.

However, I did not feel attached nor did I care for any character in this book. The character development, in my opinion, was very poor. The character with the most development, oddly enough, was Sawyer, the school shooter. I'm not sure if this was meant to happen, but it felt as if we were supposed to sympathize with him. The pacing of the plot was quite fast paced but the pacing in Jakes romance with Allister was just completely off. Everything about it felt rushed and out of wack and since I didn't care for either character, I did not care for their romance.

Also, throughout the whole entire book, until the end, I was confused. I'm not sure if this was just me a me problem or something everyone experienced but everything about the magic and ghosts and ghouls I just did not understand.

Overall, I'm just highly disappointed because I really wanted to enjoy this book and was very much looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it was just not for me.
