The character is personable. I can find my invisible teenage self relating to him on some level. The real to life situations of needing to wet his hair not to be touched, and how he straightens he do rag line. I found that, though I do not relate, to make me find the character all that much more real and relatable to many. The added intrigue his seeing ghosts and things that are unseen by others only kicks my need to continue into hyper drive. The author wrote this as a conversation would flow which helped to keep me engaged. Like a good conversation if it becomes repetitive you don’t want to stay in that space. But this conversation was one between good friends where the subject doesn’t matter only that you’re able to spend time with that friend. I went to a school that was predominantly white like me and the perspective of a POC of that time would be something I would strive for. Eye opening and the fantasy element is exactly what I like.
