Jake is a medium and is being pulled into a deadly encounter with Sawyer who recently shot 6 kids at his school before committing suicide. Sawyer is still killing people even after his death and he is after Jake. Jake feels like he is losing it between trying to stay alive because of Sawyer and trying to survive in school as the old black kid. He is also gay but has not given in to admitting it to himself yet.
A new black kid starts at the school and Jake is happy that he has a person he can better relate too. He then discovers that the new boy really likes him and is gay also.
Sawyer had kept a diary as required by the psychiatrist and Jake finds it and reads it and it helps explain why Sawyer went off the deep end that day.
At first I wasn't sure if I liked this book because it was very odd and different from any that I have read before. I am glad I kept reading because I really liked it.
