The Taking of Jake Livingston was one of my most anticipated reads of the summer, and I wanted to love it so much. As someone who loves reading all things scary and spooky, I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, I just ended up being so confused with the paranormal and horror aspects of the story. Additionally, the pacing of the plot just felt off. I didn’t understand what was happening half of the time and had to go back and reread parts of it to try and figure out what was going on. I did like Jake and Allister together; I’m glad they got their happy ending, but most of the other characters just felt so static to me.
I will say though, that this book is really short, so it makes for quick read; I just struggled to get through it. I know so many others who have really enjoyed this book, however, so if the synopsis sounds interesting, I would still give it a shot!
