The book starts with Jake, the main character, describing how one of the boys in his school died in his physical education class. Showing that Jake can see ghosts. Since I have not read the whole book, just a few chapters, I can't say why or how. Then it describes how he kinda goes through life seeing all these dead people/animals. He is also one of the only black kids in school and had to deal with racism.
Jake comes off as very depressed to me. It doesn't seem like he has many friends and people think he's crazy.
Sawyer is the other main character, whose point of view we get in the book. Sawyer seems to also be depressed and he feels like no one loves him, even in his family. Sawyer seems like a very bad and wrong character. Even before he killed a bunch of kids, he used to keep a jar filled with insects that he tortured and killed. Getting his point of view made me pity him in a way but not enough to actually like him that much.

The book is obviously a horror novel and is very gory and scary. Which I don't usually read but the writing was very well written and it drew me in even though it was a slow book.

Overall, I don't know if I am going to finish the book, because I don't enjoy horror but if you enjoy horror I feel like this book would be a very great read for you!
