A must-read YA horror novel!
I absolutely loved this young adult horror novel featuring a Black queer main character. Jake Livingston can see ghosts, and he feels a strong, intimate connection between him and the ghost of a school shooter. Sawyer is a strong, vengeful ghost who is more powerful than any ghost Jake has ever made contact with before. Soon Jake finds himself in a battle for his life.
I really appreciated that although this was a YA horror novel, it also touched on big topics like race and sexuality. Jake and Sawyer are both queer, and the narrative touches on how this others them but also binds them to each other. Jake is also one of the only Black students at his private school and struggles to feel like he belongs.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and am so glad to see a YA horror novel with a BIPOC protagonist! I will be recommending this a lot to horror readers at my library.
