I like the Jake portion of this story but not the Sawyer portion.
Jake sees the dead. He sees them everywhere, he sees the ghost of a former student that died at his school 40 years ago. He sees ghosts of old neighbors. It’s interesting but it doesn’t come off as creepy.
Sawyer was a school shooter. He killed other students, then himself. His portion of the story starts as a diary. He’s gotten out of a hospital, but not because he’s doing better, his mom just decided to take him out. Considering he was in the hospital for being suicidal, it’s something his mom shouldn’t have rushed. You can see Sawyer just falling apart in his diary entries.
I think I’d have enjoyed this book without the Sawyer storyline.
