Sebastian is a mediocre guy who manages a plant store in Vancouver. He has an awful girlfriend with whom he needs to break up. A strange and mild altering plant arrives at his store. Around the same time, a Japanese gentleman opens a sushi restaurant in his neighborhood, and becomes Sebastian's spiritual guide. There is a conspiracy involving those who would use the mind altering plant against the people of Vancouver. Sebastian and his wacky friends attempt to thwart the conspirators. It was difficult to care about any of the characters. Women were not portrayed well in this book. The plot is hard to follow and reads like a hallucinogenic drug trip, which makes sense as the psychedelic plant is central to the story. I came close to DNF several times but struggled on because I wanted to see how it ended. There were several hilarious vignettes, for example, a malodorous yoga class and a toilet disaster on yacht. Perhaps a series of short stories might have worked better.
