Thank you Bookish First and Feiwel and Friends for my free copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is my first Aiden Thomas book and The Sun Bearer Trials did not disappoint! I definitely plan on back tracking and checking out Lost in the Woods and Cemetery Boys as soon as possible.

I felt like I was reading a new version of Percy Jackson with a mix of The Hunger Games. The Sunbearer Trials is a perfect book for this generation of YA readers. There is an amazing blend of diversity, LGBTQ+ representation, and the found family trope is used wonderfully.

Inspired by Mexican mythology, I adore the world building and complex characters introduced. I don't normally read about Mexican mythology and the story has opened my eyes to a new world of possibilities.

Why I didn't give The Sunbearer Trials five stars is because of the pacing. While the action and adventure is spot on, the beginning felt too slow and a bit rushed at the end.

I'll be giving the sequel a chance when it comes out. I look forward to Thomas' next book.
