I am so happy I received a free copy of this book from BookishFirst! The first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful and interesting-looking cover. The synopsis reeled me in the rest of the way. The story begins with a prologue that explains why the Sunbearer Trials came to be and honestly, I would've been happy reading that whole story as a book itself. Needless to say, I was excited to keep reading after that. This was a great YA Fantasy! It really is a Percy Jackson/ Hunger Games mashup with a Mexican twist and I love it! Reading a book for a younger audience that's deeply embedded with Mexican culture is refreshing and fills me with pride. I would keep a Spanish translator handy for those in the audience who don't know Spanish. Anyway, as soon as Teo runs toward the fire in the bakery instead of away from it, I was rooting for him. I can't wait for the sequel to this!
