I loved every moment in The Sunbearer Trials! The book started off with its mythology and would be amazing for anyone who liked the Percy Jackson series. I'd also compare the tournament to The Hunger Games, but the book had its own unique twists that I loved. I thought Aiden Thomas did a great job with the world-building and everything felt well planned out. I especially loved all of the characters, it felt like everyone was unique and had depth. The book was super inclusive with the main character being a trans male, and queer characters throughout the book being shown as normal and accepted. The book also has racial and disability representation. The entire book is inspired based on Mexican culture.

I found the book to be hilarious and enjoyed the witty characters. I absolutely loved Niya, she had me cracking up! I loved the ending of the book and thought it was enough of a surprise to be enjoyable, but there were definitely hints throughout the book that led me to it. I liked watching the characters interact and grow up as they realize the seriousness of their situation. It was really interesting to see how Teo gained empathy for all of the competitors.

I think the book has a large age range that would enjoy it. It has tension and a ton of fun. I will always recommend this book and I can't wait for the sequel!
