I loved it!
The Sunbearer Trials is the first in a duology, set in the land of Reino del Sol, where a trans semidios named Teo is chosen to take part in the once a decade trials.
This is one of my highly anticipated books of the year and it did not disappoint! Teo, Niya, and Xio are a dream team of main characters. Spoilers aside, Teo is absolutely chaotic, Niya is a perfect himbo, and I want to protect Xio from every bad thing. I loved the casual representation in this book and how there is a range of gender, sexuality, and skin tones. It's so important that fantasy allows for more than just the white cishet characters getting their moments. Since I'd read Cemetery Boys, I also had a feeling there was going to be a plot twist so I tried to guess the ending several times and still was unsuccessful. Am I that bad or is Aiden Thomas just that good? The world will never know.
