On first read, it seemed like this would be a trilogy-type of book. There was a lot of lingo and jargon that I didn't follow, so it made me think that this book is more of a young adult book, rather than the general public. However, I think it is important for everyone to read this book, to keep up with the issues that face the youth today. I work with young people and children and I always find it helpful to know what is popular so that I am not so out of the loop. That being said, I had a hard time following this book. The idea behind the story is a good one, though. The author who is also trans, spins a fantasy tale, empowering the characters and thereby, helping the readers cope with similar conflicts they face in society. Hopefully this book will help the those in a similar situation as well as provide the entertainment they are looking for. Long embedded stereotypes of yesterday are being replaced by more inclusive and fairly represented ones so that everyone feels accepted.
